Motivational Interviewing is focused on the client’s individual strengths to achieve goals. Motivational Interviewing (MI) helps a client move from feelings of being “stuck” and powerless to a place of change. MI can be used with adolescents and adults. The therapist enables the client to recognize patterns of thinking and behavior that prevent the client from reaching their individual needs. As insight and understanding are revealed, then the client is able to recognize their strengths and take steps toward making the changes they desire.
